ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
AND DIVERSITY
We noted a lack of community-building venues.
- What should the neighborhood look like in 10 years?
- Incorporate low income housing.
- Need new businesses in Delridge that people can walk to - such as
restaurants or coffee shops
- Need stores within walking distance.
- Community College, Heart of Riverview - an urban plan.
- Zoning to provide development for businesses, parking.
- Watch for the Department of Planning and Development (DPD) signs
to go up and monitor the DPD
website. Determine the impact area and activate the neighbors
that it will affect to comment on it. (Ron volunteered to do this
for the community.) Possibly post them on the HIGHLANDPK.NET website.
- Get the Highland Park Neighborhood Development plan written 10 years
ago in the hands of more people. The city is in the process of reviewing
it.
(Ken will do this)
- Find new venture capitol to purchase existing businesses and redevelop
them.
- Work with the South Seattle Community College on a development plan.
- Have someone come from the Delridge
Neighborhoods Development Assn. and give a presentation.
TRAFFIC AND
TRANSPORTATION
- Build a new traffic circle at the intersections of 10th and Kenyon
and 10th and Elmgrove. (Mark and Carolyn and Billy)
- Traffic calming at 9th and Henderson. Find out what the requirements
are from the city. (Ruth)
- We have the potential to do our own sidewalk repair in front of the
Highland Park Improvement Club. (Ruth's husband Jeff and Greg)
- Holes left from the restoration of light poles needs to be addressed
by City Light. (HPIC can write a letter - Greg)
- Sylvan Way closures - get info from city. (Cindi)
- 16th Ave paving north of the Community College. Coordinate with Delridge.
Can this be proposed as a capitol improvement project? (Jane)
- Contact Mayor to maintain Highland Park Way. Learn more about "Bridging
the Gap" funds for street improvement, sidewalk.
- Trees on 8th Ave removed from the parking strip?
- Teach class on pruning. (Rory)
