HIGHLAND PARK SUMMIT

In true town-hall style, residents of Highland Park and neighboring communities Riverview and White Center gathered to share thoughts and ideas about issues of common interest.

Hosts were the Highland Park Action Committee & the historic Highland Park Improvement Club.

The enthusiastic participation was all we could have hoped for, and more! Thanks to all who attended.

TOPIC: If there is one thing that could get you involved in the community, what is it?

Carolyn, expecting a child this year, is interested in a moms' support group.

Above: Pastor Timothy Rambo's concern is at-risk youth and acceptance of diversity.

Above: New homeowners are concerned about nuisance residences with trash and rodents.


Martha Mallett wants to preserve
the history of HPIC and the building.


Matt Houghton of the Riverside Council wants a hiking/biking nature trail


Rick Jump of White Center Food Bank says it needs donations in months other than November & December.

Barbara Biondo describes Weed & Seed, a Seattle Police Dept. program to lessen crime.


Others mention a tacky corner store, dangerous traffic spots, sidewalks needing repair, a desire for neighborhood gathering spots, such as coffee shops. Soon the wall is papered with suggestions.

BREAKOUT GROUPS: We break up into groups to brainstorm about Cleanup,
Economic Development, Traffic, and Youth. Full reports on the results are upcoming.

HIGHLAND PARK
IMPROVEMENT CLUB

Julie Schickling is a new member, Martha Mallett (far right) a longtime member of the historic club.

The HPIC building is a rentable facility with a stage, dance floor, and dining hall or meeting room.

Both Highland Park Action Committee and Highland Park Improvement Club would like to see more active participation from their neighbors.
